Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has inaugurated the Engr. Seyi Makinde Bus Terminal and flagged off the operation of 30 new intercity buses, marking a major milestone in the transformation of the state-owned Pacesetter Transport Services.
The new initiatives, undertaken in partnership with Leyland Nigeria and Atlas Core Nigeria Ltd, include the acquisition of 30 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses and the establishment of a state-of-the-art CNG refuelling station.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, held at the Pacesetter headquarters in Ibadan, Governor Makinde described the projects as a bold step toward modernising the state’s transport infrastructure, promoting clean energy, and improving mobility for residents.
“These 30 new buses and the CNG station are not just vehicles or facilities; they represent a cleaner, smarter, and more reliable future for Oyo State,” Makinde said. “We are literally setting the pace in public transport and demonstrating how innovation and sustainability can drive our economy forward.”
He commended the management of Pacesetter Transport Services, led by Dr. Dikko Salami, for their visionary leadership and commitment to repositioning the state’s transport system.
The governor noted that the introduction of CNG-powered buses aligns with his administration’s goals of environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.
The newly built CNG station, the first of its kind for the state transport system, is designed to provide an affordable and eco-friendly fueling option for Pacesetter buses. It is expected to reduce operational costs, promote the adoption of cleaner energy, and lower transportation costs for commuters.
Governor Makinde also unveiled the new Engr. Seyi Makinde Bus Terminal, which features VVIP and VIP lounges, a ticketing booth, waiting areas, and other amenities aimed at improving commuter comfort and service delivery.
He lauded the project as evidence of his administration’s commitment to world-class service standards and a people-centered transport policy.
“The efforts of the management team, particularly under Chairman Dikko Salami, are commendable,” Makinde said. “They have not only enhanced our public transport infrastructure but also created a legacy that will benefit future generations.”
In his remarks, Dr. Dikko Salami, Chairman and Sole Administrator of Pacesetter Transport Services, expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for his visionary leadership and continued support.
“We are grateful to His Excellency for believing in the potential of Pacesetter Transport Services and for providing the resources and political will to make these projects a reality,” Salami said.
