Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde will, on Wednesday, perform a groundbreaking for the upgrade of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Alakia Ibadan to international standard.

The event will be held at the airport located in Alakia, Ibadan. The ceremony will be broadcast by some media partners.

Makinde had inaugurated an 11-man committee chaired by former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi to make recommendations and submit a white paper that will aid the expansion of Alakia Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State capital,  to international standard.

On 26th June 2024, Makinde announced that President Bola Tinubu approved the upgrade of the Ibadan Domestic Airport, Alakia, to an international airport.

Speaking at the inauguration of the committee at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Makinde stated that the vision to upgrade the airport was not hasty but rather a well-thought-out vision driven by science, logic, and data.
