Maku’s widow regains freedom as police detain officers over kidnap
Mrs. Asamawu Maku, the wife of Salisu Maku, who was murdered by kidnappers last week, has been released and reunited with her family.
A family member, who would not want his name in print, told The Guardian that the widow was released on Friday night after the ransom had been paid to her abductors.
She was kidnapped alongside her husband on Tuesday night from their residence in Gudi. The lifeless body of her husband was later discovered a few metres away from their home.
The abductors had demanded N20 million before her release, but it was not clear how much the family paid.
However, the Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, said the officers who were at the checkpoint some 100 metres away from the victims’ residence when the kidnap took place have been detained for failure to stop the criminals.
Former Minister of information, Mr. Labaran Maku, who received dignitaries who came to condole with the family in Gudi, called on the security agents across the country to go back to their drawing board.
Maku, however, appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to do everything possible to curb the incessant kidnapping in and around Gudi, his hometown.
His words, “If the governor’s hometown is not safe, where else is safe in the state?”
Governor Sule has vowed to fish out the killers of Salisu, no matter how long it took.
The governor, who visited the Makus to condole with them, prayed for the repose of the souls of the slain.
