Man gets N100,000 bail for alleged theft of tricycle
A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Friday granted N100,000 bail to Sunday Hammed, 18, who allegedly stole a tricycle.
The Senior Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, also ordered Hammed to produce two sureties in like sum.
She said one of the surety must be a blood relation of the defendant, and both sureties must provide evidence of tax payments and their addresses must be verified as she adjourned the case until Jan. 17 for mention.
Hammed, whose address was not provided at the court, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, had told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offence at Akinyola Street, Sari Iganmu Orile area of Lagos at about 11.00 a.m on Nov. 24.
He said Hammed and others now at large were found at the above address, pushing an unregistered tricycle suspected to be stolen.
“But when the police bumped into the defendant and others pushing the tricycle, they immediately left it and started running, while Hammed was apprehended.”
Osayande added that the defendant was interrogated and could not give reasonable account of how they got the tricycle.
The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened sections 327(1) and 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
