THE strange death of a 27-year-old man, Adekola Busari, whose body was found dangling in a living room at his residence, No 3, Olatunji Ajayi Street, Oke Ontii area, Osogbo, Osun State on Tuesday has thrown residents of the area into confusion.

The Guardian learnt that Busari and his wife, Bidemi, had slept the previous night without any sign of death lurking but on Tuesday when the woman woke up early in the morning to answer the call of nature, she suddenly discovered the body of her husband hanging on the ceiling of their room and she raised the alarm.

Co-tenants of the deceased, relatives and sympathisers wailed uncontrollably and refused to be consoled when The Guardian visited the area.

Bidemi told The Guardian that her husband did not give any sign the previous night as they both chatted and prayed together before going to bed on Monday night.

With red eyes and sobbing intermittently, she said: “He went out to watch a football match last night till 11:00pm and when he came back home, I brought the food he ate. We chatted, prayed and he went to bed without any suicidal sign.”

“Though he is financially indebted, I have been paying the debt for the loan he took from a micro-finance bank. So I don’t understand why
he hanged himself. I woke up to urinate and discovered that the cover cloth I used to cover our two-year-old child was missing, only to discover that it was the cloth my husband used to hang himself,” she said

Residents of Olatunji Ajayi Street said they found the event strange as they described the deceased as a cheerful and easy-going personality.

A resident, Mr Yemi Adedotun, reealed that it was Mrs Busari’s cry that woke people in the neighbourhood to the sad incident.

Adedotun claimed that he watched football match with the deceased on Monday night, adding that the deceased did not show any sign of depression or worry.

Another resident, Biola Ogunremi and close friend of the deceased said Busari’s death was a rude shock and strange because both of them were together at a viewing centre where they watched football till 11:00pm Monday night and Busari even paid his fee to watch the match.

Ogunremi said the deceased was into cell phone business before the business folded up. He added that his state of joblessness did not reflect in his attitude because his wife had been very supportive.

When The Guardian visited the scene of the incident, the body of the deceased was still hanging in his sitting room while the door was
shut.

An Official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who spoke under the condition of anonymity said that his colleagues
had gone to bring in an ambulance to remove the corpse.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Folashade Odoro (DSP) were futile, following network crisis.
