Fintiri orders defecting political appointees to resign within 48 hours

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has directed all political appointees in his administration who have publicly declared allegiance to or defected to other political parties to resign their appointments within 48 hours or face dismissal and loss of benefits.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

According to the governor, the move is aimed at preserving loyalty, discipline, and the integrity of public service within the state administration.

Governor Fintiri stated that political office holders are expected to remain committed to the policies, programmes, and political direction of the government under which they serve.

He warned that continued service by appointees who have aligned themselves with other political parties could undermine government operations through sabotage, information leakage, and obstruction of policy implementation and party strategy.

The governor therefore instructed all affected appointees to submit their resignation letters to the office of the Secretary to the State Government within 48 hours.

He also directed the office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service to compile and verify a comprehensive list of all affected political appointees for compliance monitoring.

Governor Fintiri warned that failure to comply with the directive within the stipulated period would attract immediate termination of appointment, cessation of salaries, entitlements, and benefits, as well as further administrative sanctions.

“Public office is held in trust and must align with the vision, agenda, and mandate of the administration. Government cannot condone divided loyalty in the discharge of public trust,” the governor said.
