• Police arrest woman for diverting N3m, rescue kidnap victim in Anambra
The police in Lagos have confirmed the death of a 58-year-old unnamed man while embarking on a spiritual fasting. The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday, said the incident happened on Monday at about 6:00 a.m. in the Alagbado area of the state.
He said the deceased’s younger brother, whose name was also not mentioned, reported the incident at the Alagbado Police Division at about 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
According to him, the younger brother said his brother died while undergoing 19 days of dry fasting. Hundeyin said: “No foul play suspected. Family demands to convey the corpse for burial.”
Also, operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested and detained a 25-year-old woman for allegedly diverting N3 million belonging to a company into her account.
Confirming the arrest yesterday, Hundeyin alleged that the suspect (name withheld) and her other co-workers in a catering company conspired and diverted money realised from the sale of the company’s products into their accounts. He said the suspects only remitted a fraction of the money to the company’s account.
“Over N3 million has been traced to the detained suspect’s account. She is in detention under a remand warrant while an investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Relatedly, the Anambra State Police Command and the Joint Task Force (JTF) have rescued a kidnap victim in the Ihiala area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed this yesterday, said the victim was rescued after operatives busted a criminal den at Umuduru, Ihiala Local Council of the state.
He said the feat was achieved following the arrest of a suspect (name withheld) a few weeks ago. Ikenga noted that the arrested suspect confessed to being a member of a notorious kidnap gang terrorising the Ihiala area. He said the rescued victim, a man in his mid-30s, was debriefed and released to his family and that operations are still ongoing.
