Marilyn Monroe Biopic Film Blonde Gets First Ever NC-17 Rating
Marilyn Monroe’s biopic film ‘Blonde’ becomes the first film on streaming platform Netflix to earn the first ever NC-17 rating intended for adults only.
The movie shot in 2019 did not have the certification for due to its sexual content which delayed the film.
Blonde, written and directed by Andrew Dominik features Ana de Arma as Monroe including actors like Bobby Cannavale from ‘Spy, Boardwalk Empire’, and Adrien Brody from ‘The Pianist, Succession’.
The biopic Blonde depicts the life and times of Marilyn Monroe and is an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates novel. It centres in on the possible murder of Monroe as well as highlighting her distressing childhood and her romantic link with John F. Kennedy.
In reaction to the cuts due to its sexual content, Joyce Carol Oates noted “I have seen the rough cut of Andrew Dominik’s adaptation and it is startling, brilliant, very disturbing and perhaps most surprisingly an utterly ‘feminist’ interpretation… not sure that any male director has ever achieved anything [like] this.”
Although there is no release date set yet for the film Blonde.
