The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has described the death of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, as a “monumental loss” to Zamfara State and Nigeria at large. The revered monarch died on Friday in Abuja following a prolonged illness at the age of 71.
In a statement issued shortly after the news broke, Matawalle expressed profound grief, noting the Emir’s pivotal role in fostering peace, development, and unity across the region.
“The passing of the Emir of Gusau, HRH Ibrahim Bello, is heartbreaking,” he said. “His death leaves a wide gap across many aspects of life, especially as we mourn the loss of his royal guidance and wise counsel on critical issues related to security, education, health, and economic growth.”
The Minister emphasized that the Emir’s leadership was especially vital during a time when Zamfara is grappling with multiple challenges.
“The Emir passed on at a time when his uncompromising royal service was most needed,” Matawalle added.
He extended condolences to the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate Council, and the people of Zamfara State, praying for divine mercy. “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” he said.
The late Emir, appointed in March 2015, served for over a decade and was widely respected for his commitment to public service and traditional leadership. His funeral prayer was scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Gusau Central Jumu’ah Mosque.
