Max Air confirms Kano incident as NCAA orders runway inspection
Max Air has confirmed a serious incident involving one of its aircraft at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night, following a tyre burst during landing.
The aircraft, registered as 5N-MBD, was carrying 53 passengers from Lagos when it suffered a tyre burst while attempting to land at around 10:57 p.m. Fortunately, all passengers and crew disembarked safely without any injuries.
In a statement posted on its X handle, Max Air praised its crew for their professionalism in ensuring a safe evacuation.
The airline stated, “We wish to inform the public that one of our aircraft experienced an incident upon landing in Kano yesterday.”
The airline also confirmed that the Kano runway was temporarily closed for inspection, which may cause delays in flight operations on Wednesday. The aircraft was cleared from the runway by 4:28 a.m. the following day.
Max Air’s engineering team continues to handle the situation with expertise, according to the airline’s statement, and passengers will be kept informed about flight schedule updates.

In response, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered a thorough inspection of the airport’s runway. Attempts to contact officials from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) for comment were unsuccessful.
This incident follows a similar emergency in December 2024, when a Max Air plane was forced to make an emergency landing due to a fire shortly after departing Maiduguri Airport in Borno State.
