The Chairman of the Lagos State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the National President of the union.

MC Oluomo was unanimously chosen at the Quadrennial Delegate Conference of the NURTW Zone 2 Council, held at the union’s Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State, on Saturday.

Nineteen delegates, all executive officers from NURTW councils in Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, and Ogun states, elected MC Oluomo as the national president.

Mrs Adedamola Oyebode Salami, Head of Finance, represented Acting President, Alhaji Nasiru Komolafe, and served as the presiding officer for the conference, while Comrade Raymond Adeyemi, Head of Organisation from Abuja, coordinated the event.

Komolafe informed delegates and other members that the presidency position had been zoned to the South-West.

Only four states participated in the election, as NURTW operations remain functional in these regions, while Osun and Oyo states did not partake since their governors have yet to permit the union’s activities.

Chief Joseph Falope, chairman of the Ekiti NURTW council, moved the motion to elect MC Oluomo as National President, and Comrade Ademola Odudu, chairman of Ondo NURTW council, seconded the nomination. With no counter-nominations, the conference endorsed MC Oluomo amid jubilation, and he was sworn in by two lawyers.

The conference also endorsed Tajudeen Agbede as Vice President for the South-West and Mr. Akeem Adeosun, known as Jago, as Trustee.

In his acceptance speech, MC Oluomo thanked delegates and members for their support, pledging to unify the union.

He expressed forgiveness to those who may have wronged him and asked for forgiveness from those he might have offended.

Falope, addressing journalists, affirmed that the union’s constitution empowers these four states to convene the conference.
