Mike Ozekhome urges reinstatement of Justice Ademola, wife, faults FG’s anti-graft campaign
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome, yesterday lauded the discharge of Justice Niyi Ademola, his wife Olubowale and Joe Agi of corruption charges and called for his immediate reinstatement to the Supreme Court and his wife to Lagos State Civil Service.
In a statement yesterday, he also faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft campaign, saying those behind its implementation were not sincere.
He said: “To remove the odious and negative tar of shame, odium and obloquy on these respected members of the society, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Government must make restitution by tendering a public apology immediately to Justice Ademola, his wife and Mr. Joe Agi (SAN).
“The NJC should immediately recall Justice Ademola to commence sitting on the Bench. The Lagos State government should also recall Ademola’s wife to her post.
“We must be careful not to derail this hard won democracy, which some of us used the best part of our youth fighting for and are still fighting for. Those currently running and ruining the country were nowhere to be found then. They comfortably hid behind their wives’ backs. Like Roman Emperor Nero, they enjoyed and pursued trifles while their country’s edifice burnt.”
He commended Justice Jude Okeke who gave the ruling in Abuja.
“This is an obviously laughable and anti-climax after all the grandstanding, posturing, rabble rousing and wanton degradation of the judiciary by their traducers. This discharge was after the humiliation of Justice Ademola, whose home was savagely invaded by masked operatives of the DSS, between the hours of 12 midnight to 5am.
“We were told to shut up, not to complain, because the government was fighting corruption.”
