Militancy: NAF to refocus Operation Niger Delta
The leadership of Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has said it would review operational focus in the Niger Delta region to protect critical national infrastructure, even as utility helicopters have commenced aerial surveillance of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs, to stem rising wave of crime.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, gave the hint at the end of the monthly route match held in Abuja, yesterday.
He disclosed that the security situation in Niger Delta requires urgent attention, particularly with the Boko Haram challenge in the Northeast substantially tackled, stressing that they plan to refocus their attention towards stemming the militancy in the area.
“The challenges in the north east has been substantially addressed, so we are not too worried now with the north east, our main focus would now be to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria in the south-south and to ensure that oil and gas infrastructure are not destroyed by any group or group of individuals, very soon we would launch an exercise in the south south also, and the aim of the exercise is to protect our people and the infrastructure of Nigeria.”
