The military has refuted claims that Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) killed 40 soldiers in a recent attack on Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) at Baga, Borno State.

Baga is on the shores of Lake Chad, 195 kilometres north of Maiduguri, the epic centre of the Boko Haram insurgency.

It described last Monday’s purported killings reported Thursday by media as “completely unfounded and being sponsored by purveyors of fake news.”

In a statement Friday in Maiduguri, MNJTF spokesman, Col. Timothy Antigha, disclosed there was a desperate attempt by certain individuals to promote falsehood.

He insisted that the story was “completely unfounded.”
