MindAfrica collaborates with Welltec to empower girls on digital skills

In a view to promote digital skills, mentorship, and inclusion for adolescent girls in Port Harcourt, MindAfrica Leadership Initiative strategically partnered with Welltec to successfully host Girls in ICT Day 2025 in Port Harcourt.

Participants included over 300 adolescent girls from diverse public and private secondary schools as well as Community Secondary Schools, Air Force school, Federal Government Girls College, and Faith-based Schools.

Themed “Girls in ICT: Bridging ALL Divides for an Inclusive Digital Transformation,” the event provided hands on exposure to high-demand digital skills and inspirational engagement with female role models in technology.

The event was proudly supported by Welltec, which served as the official sponsor, underscoring its commitment to advancing inclusive education and female participation in technology. The company’s Country Manager for West Africa, Karim Boseli, attended the event in person, engaging directly with the girls and emphasizing the importance of representation, equity, and innovation in shaping the future workforce.

“We believe that empowering girls through ICT is one of the most effective ways to drive inclusive growth and innovation.

“Partnering with MindAfrica allows us to support a transformative initiative that aligns with our values and long-term vision for social impact” said Boseli.

The one-day programme featured:
hands-on workshops in AI, UI/UX design, cybersecurity, web development, digital content creation, and Arduino/physical computing.

A panel discussion with accomplished young Nigerian women in technology and engineering fields was formed.

Mentorship and career discovery sessions that exposed participants to real-world ICT pathways was also held.

Keynote address was delivered by leading female in Science & Technology.

MindAfrica’s Executive Director, Olere Iluebbey noted that the event reflects the organisation’s deep commitment to digital inclusion and gender equity.

“Our goal was not just to teach new skills but to shift mindsets that would help girls see themselves as creators and leaders in the digital world.

“We are grateful to Welltec for supporting this vision and for helping us bridge social, economic, and digital divides” she said.

Girls in ICT Day is a global initiative spearheaded by the International .Telecommunication Union (ITU) to encourage girls and young women to pursue studies and careers in ICT.

MindAfrica has been hosting the event annually since 2015 and has touched thousands of students through its STEM and digital education programmes.

This year’s edition also featured cross-sector collaboration between educators, government stakeholders, and private-sector professionals, reinforcing the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
