The Parish Priest of Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church, Ajao Estate, Lagos, Rev’d Fr. Philip Uchendu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to beef up security at all the nation’s borders as a way to address the influx of terrorists.
Speaking at the yearly Knights of St. Mulumba Nigeria (KSM), Patron Feast Day celebration held last Saturday at the church premises in Lagos, the cleric decried the porous nature of Nigerian borders, adding that strangers at the border posts do all manners of destructive things.
He said: “We are saying to the government, enough of the killings.
If you have value for human life, you will tackle the situation. The nation is in a state of disarray. I believe in the principle that if you cannot keep to your manifesto, why not honourably step aside and allow others come in and find lasting solution to insecurity. You cannot continue to use people’s life as an excuse. People are killed everyday and you cannot help the situation. We are saying enough of the killings.”
The Parish Priest noted that Nigeria is not an Islamic state, but a cosmopolitan country, and all Nigerians must be recognised and protected.
Speaking on the theme: “Knights Of hope: Living As Bearers Of Christ’s Light,” Uchendu rolled out criteria for being a knight.
He said: “We made it clear that you cannot be a knight, without being a light carrier of the gospel. And for you to be a light carrier of the gospel, you must keep to the ordinances and instructions of Master Jesus, Who says anyone who comes to me will certainly not perish in darkness.”
The cleric maintained that KSM members are the light on the mountain and should let the light shine wherever they are.
Tasking members on integrity, character and loyalty, Uchendu said it is not just members of the Knight, but also the nation.
