As Group Insists On Recall Over Impeachment Motion

Apparently reacting to an attack on him at Benin Airport and fears of further attack, Edo State Police have beefed up security at the residence of Senator Matthew Uroghide, who moved a motion of impeachment against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Two police vans were stationed outside, while heavily armed policemen were seen outside.Party supporters were at the residence to show solidarity with Senator Urhoghide, who told journalists he didn’t regret what he said at the floor of the Senate.

He said it was a shame on Nigeria for a boy to hit a serving senator and representative of the people. He explained that he expected political practitioners to educate people that he was not talking about impeachment, when he moved a motion that Section 143 of the Constitution should be invoked.

He fingered Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, Mr. Taiwo Akerele as being responsible for mobilisation of thugs that attacked him. However, a statement late yesterday by Edo South Youth Coalition signed by Ehis Odaise said the Senator should respond to their query that he did not consult with his constituents before moving the motion.

“We call on Uroghide to respond to the issues we raised in our protest against him and should stop dragging the Chief of Staff, who is not even from Edo South into the issue.

“We reiterate our position that he should withdraw his motion or we will commence recall process against him.Edo State remains an APC state under Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is committed to bringing good governance to the people, as desired by President Muhammadu Buhari.”
