The National Hydro Electric Power Producing Development Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has donated N5 million, assorted food items, life jackets, and household essentials to victims of the devastating flood in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Acting Managing Director Haruna Jimoh-Gabi presented the cash and relief materials to the Niger State Government in Mokwa on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
He expressed deep sympathy to the victims and condolences to the families of the over 161 lives lost in the disaster.
While commending the state government’s efforts to prevent future tragedies, Jimoh-Gabi acknowledged the irreparable loss of lives but stressed that damaged infrastructure could be rebuilt.
He pledged the commission’s continued support to the people of Mokwa.
The donations included 150 bags of 50kg rice, 100 cartons of noodles, 20 bags of gari, 150 student-sized mattresses, 50 blankets, 100 mosquito nets, 100 rubber mats, 100 cartons of 4-liter palm oil, 20 bags of salt, 50 cartons of tomatoes, 50 cartons each of bathing soap, laundry soap, detergent, and 100 life jackets.
Receiving the donations on behalf of the state government, Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Mohammed Yakubu-Kolo, thanked N-HYPPADEC for the generous support.
He assured that the items would be fairly distributed to flood victims to help alleviate their suffering and mitigate the disaster’s impact.
