Mother’s Day: Nwifuru assures Ebonyi women of gender-sensitive governance

• Obaseki urges support for women empowerment
As the Catholic Church worldwide celebrates Mothering Sunday, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, yesterday, assured Ebonyi women of policy trajectories of the government that will ensure it is gender sensitive.
Nwifuru stated this in his Mothering Sunday message in Abakaliki, noting that their resilience, dedication, strength of character, and support have at all times continued to inspire us all.
The governor noted that women are truly deserving of celebration because they are the pillars of the families, adding that they are nurturers of our society and the guiding compass in the human ecosystems.
While pledging gender-sensitive governance and policy trajectories of government that will ensure gender mainstreaming, Nwifuru maintained that mothers are the foundation of love, care, and strength, and their sacrifices shape not only the future of children but the great state.
Also, the immediate former Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, felicitated with women and mothers at home and abroad for their unwavering dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in shaping families and society.
This is contained in a statement by the former governor, which was made available to newsmen in Benin.
Obaseki said that government at all levels must prioritise initiatives that empower and support mothers, from improving maternal healthcare to expanding educational and economic opportunities for women.
The statement reads: “As we commemorate the 2025 Mother’s Day, I celebrate our women and mothers for their unwavering dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in shaping our families and society. Their ability to balance multiple responsibilities, from nurturing families, excelling in their careers, and contributing to their communities remain a testament to their strength and selflessness.”
