MSSN Lagos hails rescue of Oyo schoolchildren

Released Oyo pupils

…Seeks special courts, tougher penalties for kidnappers

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, has welcomed the rescue of the schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, calling for the establishment of special courts to expedite the trial of kidnappers, terrorists and bandits.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Amir (President) of MSSN Lagos, Dr. Ajibola Yusuf Salami, described the successful rescue as a source of relief for the victims’ families after weeks of uncertainty.

The group commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force for their roles in securing the victims’ release.

“Their professionalism, sacrifice and collaborative efforts made this rescue possible, demonstrating the power of unity in the face of adversity,” Salami said.

MSSN also expressed solidarity with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Ogbomoso, saying the operation had strengthened public confidence in the country’s security agencies.

While celebrating the rescue, the organisation stressed that authorities must address the root causes of violent crime through decisive and sustained action.

Citing Islamic teachings on the sanctity of human life, Salami said accountability for violent crimes is essential to justice and deterrence.

“Islam places great emphasis on the preservation of life, property, honour and human dignity,” he said, quoting Surah Al-Isra (Qur’an 17:33).

The society argued that while Islam encourages repentance and rehabilitation, those convicted of violent crimes against innocent citizens should face the full weight of the law.

Reiterating recommendations made during its recent inaugural press briefing, MSSN Lagos urged the Federal and state governments to adopt stronger measures to combat kidnapping and banditry.

“Nigeria cannot develop in an atmosphere of fear,” Salami said.

“Security must remain a national priority, and all stakeholders must work together to restore public confidence and protect lives and property.”
