Mobile Telephone Network (MTN), yesterday, partially opened the completed section of Ugwuonyeama, 9th Mile, Enugu-Onitsha Dual Carriage Way to help flow of traffic for the Christmas seasons with a pledge not to abandon the road.

The Federal Government had, in October last year, approved the takeover of the construction of the 110km expressway by the MTN at the cost of over N202.8 billion under the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme.

At a joint press briefing by the MTN and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to temporary open the 18km completed section of the road from Ugwuonyeama to Imezi Owa axis, MTN’s Enterprise Manager, Chinenye Muonueke, told the cheerful gathering that the road would be completed at the agreed time frame.

Muonueke said: “There will not be any extension of time line. We decided to partially open the road to ease movement and reduce stress being suffered by travelers.”

This is a road that will impact lives, and we are committed to the terms of agreement with the Federal Government to deliver quality roads for our people.”

Coordinator, MTN Liaison Initiative, Dr. Reginald Facah, who highlighted the influx of traffic along the dual carriage way, restated that the development would make traveling seamless for road users.

“Today, we are gathered to temporarily open the partially completed sections of the Enugu-Onitsha dual carriageway, not because the entire project is ready, but because December and Christmas have seen unimaginable suffering on the parts of commuters and drivers on this same road,” he said.
