The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Turkish defence firm ASELSAN have agreed to deepen their collaboration to boost Nigeria’s radar, air defence, and precision technology capabilities, aimed at enhancing national security amid evolving threats.
During a courtesy visit to NAF Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, ASELSAN’s President and CEO, Ahmet Akyol, met with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar.
The discussions focused on consolidating existing partnerships and exploring new opportunities to equip the NAF with advanced tools to tackle contemporary security challenges.
Air Marshal Abubakar commended ASELSAN’s global reputation in defence electronics, noting that its expertise aligns with his vision of developing a more agile and technologically capable Air Force.
He stressed the importance of advanced radar systems, anti-drone technologies, and precision-guided capabilities in strengthening the NAF’s operational effectiveness.
“This partnership is about equipping our Air Force with the tools needed to protect our people and strengthen national security,” Abubakar said, adding that the technologies would enhance the NAF’s ability to safeguard communities across Nigeria and the sub-region.
Akyol expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed ASELSAN’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions in radar, avionics modernisation, and air defence systems.
He described Nigeria as a strategic partner for Türkiye in Africa and pledged to support the NAF’s mission to ensure security and stability.
The visit underscores ongoing high-level engagements between Nigeria and Türkiye, reflecting their shared objective of advancing defence cooperation to promote peace and security.
The strengthened partnership is expected to boost NAF’s counter-insurgency operations, improve its capacity to address emerging threats, and reinforce Nigeria’s role as a key player in regional security. Both parties expressed optimism that the collaboration would deliver innovative solutions to Nigeria’s defence needs.
