
Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has signed the N698.3 billion 2025 budget into law, with 76 per cent allocated for capital expenditure.
The signing ceremony was held at the state’s government house chamber in Dutse on Tuesday, 31st December 2024.
Governor Namadi said the budget aims to develop Jigawa State’s infrastructure and human capital development.
He said, “This year’s budget of N698.3 billion is the highest budget in the history of Jigawa State, aimed at restructuring the state into a greater one.”
Namadi then thanked the State House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the budget and congratulated the ministries, departments, and agencies. He saluted them for their technical expertise during the budget process.
To the members of the State Council Chamber, Namadi prayed for their immense contributions towards ensuring that the budget meets reality. He further assured them of his commitment to ensuring the budget is fully met.
He urged the MDAs, technical officers, and other sectors responsible for the implementation of the law to avoid any sense of corruption and to be accountable for their activities. He also urged them to discharge their duties quickly as stipulated in the budget law.
Jigawa Post reports that the State House of Assembly passed the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill of N698.3 billion on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the House floor. The Assembly also approved N184.4 billion as the 2025 budget for the 27 local government areas in the state.
It added that the lawmakers passed the two bills at a plenary sitting on Monday. The Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Hamza Ibrahim, presented the report of the committee containing over 62 recommendations, which the lawmakers unanimously adopted.
The state budget is made up of N90,730,520,000 for personnel costs; N70,171,960,000 for recurrent expenditure; and N537,397,000,520 for capital projects.
Regarding the local council’s budget, the committee made seven recommendations, including setting aside 17% for pensions, primary healthcare, and universal basic education.
The Speaker, Hon. Haruna Aliyu, who presided over the sitting, expressed hope that the budget will be implemented to provide people-oriented projects across the state.
