NAS feeds 450 vulnerable children in Edo

A human rights and social justice organization, National Association of Seadogs (NAS), on Saturday offered free food to about 450 vulnerable children in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government of Edo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the association, popularly known as pyrates confraternity, was founded by Prof. Wole Soyinka and six others in 1952 to support social justice in Nigeria.

The event, tagged: “Feeding of 450 Street Kids a Day” is organized by the Hybrid Deck (Edo North Chapter) in partnership with Atlantis Deck (Atlanta Georgia Chapter, USA).

Speaking at the event,the Capoon, Hybrid Deck, Edo North Chapter, Mr. Christopher Ikponwonsa, said the organization would provide three square meal to the children.

Ikponwonsa said the idea was to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society, especially the children.

He added that the decision was in furtherance of the organizations humanitarian service.
“We are offering the children breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“The feeding of the kids and other less privileged persons in the society is to show that NAS as an organisation cares for them,” Ikponwonsa said.

The NAS Hybrid Deck Capoon, however, urged members of the public to always stretch a hand of support to persons in need within the society.

Also, the Project Officer, NAS Hybrid Deck, Dr. Idris Haruna said the free feeding programme was to cushion the effect of hardship caused by economic reforms in the country.

“This is in response to the hunger and acute food shortage.

“As a humanitarian body, Hybrid Deck in partnership with Atlantis Deck, initiated this free food programme to mitigate the scorching and pervasive hunger in the land.

“This is one of the seadogs initiatives and programmes conceived and executed to fight hunger and alleviate poverty,” Haruna said.
