Nasaraw House Assembly

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has urged the Igwo community of the state to remain peaceful sequel to the mining land ownership tussle in the area.

Mr Mohammed Omadefu, Chairman of the Committee, made the call when he led his members on a fact-finding mission to Baoan Global Mining Ltd, in Igwo community, in Kokona LGA of the state over a petition.

Omadefu said that the petition was received from the family of Osanga Otogoyi against one Alhaji Ali, whose family leased their land to him for mining.

“We are here on the receipt of a complaint by the Osanga Otogoyi family, who complained that they have leased a portion of a mining pit to someone for mining purposes.

“And the person went ahead to sell a portion of the land which is against their initial agreement.

“We are here to do our findings to ascertain the true position in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the area.

“We will ensure that justice is done on the matter,” he said.

Omadefu said that the committee would invite all the affected persons on the matter for thorough investigation.

He called on the people of the area and other adjoining communities to remain calm while assuring them of justice on the matter.

“We are appealing to the inhabitants of this community to please refrain from any negative acts and remain calm as we want to assure them that justice will be done on the matter” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee had earlier visited the Palace of the Village Head of Igwo community, Alhaji Mohammed Otogoyi, to inform him of their mission.

On his part, Otogoyi appreciated the committee for the visit in order to ascertain the true position of the petition.

Otogoyi also urged the committee to be just and fair on the matter.
