The National Association of University Students (NAUS) has officially appointed Comrade Tiamiyu Olayinka Ibrahim of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology as the duly recognised President of the association following a resolution reached at its National Stakeholders’ Meeting held in Abuja.
The meeting, chaired by Engr. Kunle Oyediran, held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 in Abuja brought together key stakeholders of the association from the six geopolitical zones of the country.
According to a communiqué signed by Oyediran, and the Secretary, Ashiru Muhammed, the gathering provided an avenue for participants to deliberate on the state of the union, assess the progress of the association, and discuss issues affecting the Nigerian university system and the country at large.
The stakeholders said that after extensive deliberations, they reviewed the outcome of the recent NAUS National Convention and observed that the number of accredited senators present at the convention did not constitute the quorum required for the conduct of an election.
Consequently, the meeting resolved to adopt what it described as the long-standing tradition and established convention of NAUS, which has historically guided the emergence of leadership within the association whenever there is an inability to form the required quorum.
The communiqué noted that the outcome of NAUS conventions has traditionally been determined through stakeholders’ affirmation in situations where quorum requirements were not met.
Based on this precedent, the stakeholders said they considered Ibrahim’s years of dedicated service, commitment to the growth of the association, and his decision to step down during a previous electoral process in the interest of unity before endorsing him as President of NAUS by a majority decision.
The stakeholders also called on members, student leaders, affiliated institutions and stakeholders across the country to support the new leadership in the interest of unity, stability and the continued advancement of the association.
They further reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the ideals of NAUS and promoting the welfare and interests of Nigerian university students.
