The Nigerian Navy has denied report that one of its personnel, Abdulgafar Ahmad Oluwatoyin, known as Cute Abiola is missing. The Navy confirmed that Oluwatoyin, who is also a comedian, is in its custody for breaching its social media code.

The denial was contained in a  statement, yesterday, titled: “Cute ABiola Is Not Missing”,  and signed by spokesperson of the Navy, Commodore Suleiman Dahun, on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff.

It stated: “The attention of the Nigerian Navy has been drawn to an online news story which claims that a naval personnel, OSCOMP Abdulgafar AA, who incidentally is a popular comedian known as Cute Abiola, has gone missing. The Nigerian Navy wishes to categorically debunk this false news report currently trending online.

“OSCOMP Abdulgafar is currently under custody in his unit for breaching Armed Forces social media policy and refusal to obey particular orders.
“The Nigerian Navy wishes to avail itself of this incident to remind its personnel to comply with the provisions of the Armed Forces social media policy in their usage of social media platforms.

“The policy, amongst others, is emplaced to protect their personal safety and security as well as the information integrity of the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

MEANWHILE, skit maker, Debo Adedayo, known by his stage name as Mr. Macaroni, who raised the alarm of the missing personnel, stated on Twitter:  “ I’m just hearing that the Military can do with their members however they please and that they do not necessarily operate within the laws guiding civilians.  That they have their own different playbook.”

Also, social media sensation, Daniel Regha said: “Abiola is a well known public figure. So, whether or not the military have their own mode of operation, they need to thread carefully and inform the public on their intentions concerning Abiola. He has loved ones, who are worried.
