The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, yesterday, commissioned facilities built by Tantita Security Services Limited at the NNS Delta base in Warri, Delta State. The commissioning was part of activities to mark the Navy’s 70th anniversary.
The Naval Chief, who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim, lauded the improved relationship between the Navy and Tantita, which led to the conception and completion of the facilities.
He said the facilities were executed at a fast pace because Tantita made resources available for the quick completion of the projects, vowing that the facilities would be maintained. He said the minor issues the Navy had with Tantita had been amicably resolved and that both parties are cooperating for the good of the country.
The facilities included a 30-room senior rates self-contained accommodation, a multipurpose hall, car parks, an arrival ratings lodge, volleyball and lawn tennis courts, among others.
Earlier, the Nigerian Navy in Delta State donated educational materials to Ogiame Primary School as part of activities to mark their anniversary.
The commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, said the donation of the educational materials, which included exercise books and school bags, was part of the corporate social responsibility of the navy to inspire young learners by providing educational materials.
He said: “We are here at Ogiame Primary School to mark the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary through Educational Rhapsody, our initiative to support learning and youth development in our host communities. Since 1956, the Nigerian Navy has been charged with defending Nigeria’s maritime domain. But our duty does not end at sea.
For seven decades, we have also invested in nation-building through civil-military cooperation, because we know that a secure country needs an educated and disciplined next generation. Education is the strongest tool we have for national transformation,” he said.
