Navy nabs 21 suspected oil thieves

The navy, NNS Delta, has arrested 21 suspected illegal oil bunkerers. They have already been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Benin City office in Edo State, for investigation and possible prosecution.

Also, vessels reportedly used for the operation were impounded.

The suspects are: George Nwafor, John Obukene, Elijah Ibitoye, Lawal Olayemi, Sherif Prex, Obaten Egbe, Balogun Ogunlowa, Alex Udi, Eremiye Esau and Agbaje Anofi.

Others are: Abdulganiyu Kabiru, Japhet Onyenibe, Sola Olurinmi, Endurance Mene, Mohammed Ajodun, Monday Atie, Demehin Omolere, Olu Juwon, Oroyo Ade, Omoteyinshe Onbowoibun and Isogun Bode.

NNS Delta, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu, stated at the handing over in Warri, Delta State, that the vessels were intercepted on May 19, 2019 off Escravos by a combined team of NNS Delta and Forward Operating Base (FOB) for engaging in illegal oil bunkering.

The vessels, including Cotonou Boat, were allegedly loaded with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
