The Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted allegations by an online platform, Warri Aproko11, claiming that officers of the service released inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Warri to participate in robbery operations, referred to as “Omila operations,” before returning them to custody.

In a statement issued yesterday by the Command’s spokesperson, Allen Iloba, and made available to The Guardian in Asaba, the NCoS described the report as false, unpatriotic, and a figment of the writer’s imagination.

Iloba stated, “The report is fabricated to disrupt the existing peace in Warri and maliciously tarnish the image of this reputable institution. For the avoidance of doubt, no inmate on death row, or under any guise, is allowed to approach the gate lodge, let alone leave the facility for criminal activities.”

The Command criticised the online platform for lacking credibility, noting that it operates a faceless Facebook account without identifiable contact details. “What credibility can come from such a source?” Iloba queried.

The statement urged media outlets to verify their reports before publication and advised the public to disregard the false allegations. Iloba reaffirmed the NCoS’s commitment to justice and its mandate to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate inmates after their sentences, stressing that the service remains dedicated to upholding its values and responsibilities.
