NCS bus driver kills one, injures others in Ilorin

Tragedy struck, yesterday, at Oja-Oba market in Ilorin, Kwara State, when a bus belonging to the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) conveying some suspects to the court lost control and rammed into people, killing one and leaving many injured.

The scene created pandemonium as people were scampering for safety.
An eyewitness told The Guardian that the vehicle driver approached the area driving against traffic and at high speed when the incident occurred.

Another eyewitness said the bus was coming from Okekura correctional service at high speed, resulting in the driver losing control of the bus, crushing people along the road, especially Okada riders, petty traders and passers-by.

It was learnt that one person died on the spot, while two others were critically injured and taken to the hospital.
Confirming the development, spokesperson for the state Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, said details will be released at the conclusion of investigation.

Meanwhile, five suspected abductors of the wife and children of the Kwara State House of Assembly member, Hon. Soliu Ayanshola, have been arrested.
The victims, who were abducted three days ago, regained their freedom late Wednesday at about 8:00p.m. after discreet efforts by security agencies and the state government.

Sources in the Government House said about five members of the gang that abducted the victims have been arrested following discreet intelligence and surveillance works by all the teams involved.

The police confirmed the freedom of the lawmaker’s family and the arrest of the perpetrators.
