National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the party is planning a protest over the worsening insecurity in the country.
In a statement issued on Monday, the former Kano State governor described the claim as false and misleading, insisting that the party would pursue its political objectives through the ballot box in the 2027 general election. Kwankwaso said the NDC has no involvement in any action capable of disrupting public peace or leading to the destruction of lives and property.
He stressed that the party remains committed to democratic principles and peaceful engagement, maintaining that constructive dialogue and lawful political processes are the appropriate channels for addressing national concerns.
According to him, the circulation of such reports appears aimed at creating unnecessary tension and confusion among citizens, while also misrepresenting the party’s position on national security issues.
He urged members of the public to disregard the reports and rely only on official statements from the party for accurate information regarding its activities and programmes. Kwankwaso reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to democratic participation and pledged that the party would continue to engage Nigerians through peaceful and lawful means ahead of the 2027 elections.
‘Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country.
‘We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” he said.
Kwankwaso further stated that the ballot box remains the only legitimate avenue for expressing grievances and effecting political change, expressing confidence that the party is well-positioned to secure victory in the forthcoming elections through peaceful and democratic means.
He emphasised that the party would continue to engage Nigerians at all levels through issue-based politics while avoiding actions capable of undermining national peace and stability. Kwankwaso urged the public to disregard the circulating message, warning against the spread of misinformation and politically motivated disinformation aimed at creating tension and confusion in the country.
He also called on party supporters and members of the public to verify information through official party channels before sharing it, stressing the importance of responsible communication in maintaining peace, order and national cohesion.
”As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means.
”The general public is therefore advised to disregard the false message and ignore those peddling such disinformation,” the statement reads
