ADC eyes 2027 guber poll victory, laments insecurity
Former Majority Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intensify efforts to secure the release of over 400 residents of Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Council of Borno State, who remain in captivity following a recent insurgent attack.
The victims, mostly women and children, were abducted last month by fighters of Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS), a faction of Boko Haram, during a coordinated assault that also left the community destroyed, including military formations in the area.
Ndume, who spoke with journalists in Abuja yesterday, expressed concern over the plight of the abductees and the slow pace of federal response, noting that the situation demands immediate and decisive intervention.
The lawmaker, however, acknowledged that the Nigerian Army has since reclaimed Ngoshe from insurgents and currently maintains control of the area.
He noted that many residents, who escaped, now reside in Pulka, but are eager to return home despite the devastation.
According to him, displaced residents have expressed willingness to return to Ngoshe immediately, even if it means living in temporary shelters pending the reconstruction of their homes.
Ndume urged the Federal Government to complement the efforts of the Borno State government, which has already committed N100 million towards the immediate reconstruction, resettlement and rehabilitation of the affected community.
He further called on relevant federal agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), and the Ministry of Housing, to urgently mobilise to Ngoshe to support rebuilding efforts.
MEANWHILE, the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has indicated readiness for the 2027 governorship election as part of a broader move to overcome the lingering insecurity in the state.
According to the party, incessant failures in governance have also led to the resurgence of Boko Haram terrorism at the state and national levels.
Vowing to take over Borno State in Maiduguri, State ADC Chairman, Kolo Bukar, shortly after inaugurating the party’s executive members, he alleged: “The security challenges and resurgence of attacks in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and other parts of the country are caused by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration incompetence in governance at both the state and national levels.”
