Managing Director, North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mohammed Alkali, has disclosed plans to establish rehabilitation centres in the North East region to treat trauma resulting from insurgency.

Alkali said this at a formal graduation ceremony and issuance of starter packs to 198 youths trained on phone repairs and computer education, as well as distribution of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) preventive items, relief materials for flood ravaged communities, anti-snakebite vials and improved seedlings to local farmers.

According to him, dwellers, especially youths, have suffered negative impact of insurgency since it started, adding that such facility will aid in engendering psychological sanity.

He said: “The commission knows the challenges faced by youths of this state and the North East as a whole. We all know the number of youths we have across the North East; some of them are highly educated, some have started to build their businesses and they need our support. For that reason, we have reached an advance stage for the establishment of youth development centres; so that our youths will be guided properly to access assistances from anywhere.”
