The North-East Development Commission (NEDCOM) Bill before the Senate will address the “comprehensive rebuilding” of Boko Haram destroyed communities in the North-East geo-political zone before the over 2.2 million Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps return to their respective homes, the Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has said.

Ndume, who spoke yesterday with newsmen in Maiduguri at his Government Reservation Area (GRA) residence, said that the bill had scaled the second reading; while and the third and final readings would be passed to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent to become law.

He said by February this year, the rebuilding of all the destroyed communities would commence under various implementation and monitoring committees in the six affected states in the North-East.

“I don’t want to be misquoted gentlemen of the press, but the NEDCOM Bill, will be similar to that of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) established by the Obasanjo administration in addressing the Niger Delta militancy in the South-South and South-East geo-political zones of this country,” Ndume said.
