NEITI boss urges support for anti-graft fight

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Waziri Adio, has enjoined the people and the media alike to continue to talk and report corrupt practices in public and private places until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Adio, in his keynote address delivered to over 400 students during the second edition of the yearly conference of Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) yesterday, noted that the country was in its current state because the masses had not shown enough interest in governance.

He stressed that “citizens must demand for more openness and more answers” from the leaders.

The NEITI boss said that the “citizens must be willing to organise and make their voices count, demand for equitable and sustainable allocation of revenues of mineral resources and question and challenge rules and practices that undermine the ability of society to derive optimum value from their endowment.”

Besides, co-founder of the School of International Futures, United Kingdom (UK), Cat Tully, who spoke on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), charged Nigerian youths not to wait until they are called upon before getting involved.
