The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in the Ibi/Wukari Federal Constituency of Taraba State.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at the AYA J Warehouse near the Deputy Governor’s Office in Jalingo, Mrs Zubaida Umar, represented by Mr Giwa S. Kurutsi, reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of the affected communities and aiding their recovery.
The initiative was facilitated by Hon. Prince Ayuba Aboki Zaku Dampar, the Member representing Ibi/Wukari Federal Constituency, who, through his assistant Danladi Damgiri, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for their swift response.
He assured attendees that the materials would reach the intended beneficiaries across the flood-affected areas.
Between 29 October and 3 November 2024, the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), in collaboration with NEMA, the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), said 66 locations in Taraba State were affected by floods.
NEMA spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel said three states in the northeast, Jigawa, Adamawa and Taraba, were hit hard by floods in 2024, with a further 41,344 people displaced.

Items distributed included essential supplies such as rice, maize, vegetable oil, 3-in-1 beverages, seasoning cubes, and iodised salt.
Meanwhile, representatives from TSEMA and community leaders were also present to oversee the process.
