In a powerful collaboration with the British Council and King’s Trust International, NerdzFactory Company has launched the Youth Sustainable Enterprise Challenge Programme (YSEC), designed to empower young entrepreneurs in Lagos.
The programme seeks to support individuals aged 18-35, providing them with essential skills, mentorship, resources, and funding to turn their innovative ideas into thriving businesses that benefit both the local and national economy.
YSEC spans seven weeks and offers participants a dynamic learning experience, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application. Entrepreneurs will undergo training in essential areas such as business management, financial literacy and sustainability, giving them a solid foundation to build sustainable, profitable ventures.
In addition to these core skills, YSEC includes activities like business simulation games, where participants can apply their knowledge to realistic scenarios, strengthening both their strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Founding Partner of NerdzFactory, Ademulegun Olowojoba, explained that what sets YSEC apart is its holistic approach to developing future business leaders.
He said: “Participants will engage in role model exposure visits, where they meet successful local entrepreneurs who share their experiences and insights into Nigeria’s business landscape. These interactions are invaluable, offering participants real-world perspectives and the chance to learn from others who have overcome the challenges of entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The programme also includes checkpoints throughout, enabling participants to track their progress and receive ongoing support as they refine their skills.
“As the programme nears its conclusion, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their business ideas in a pitch competition. Those with promising concepts will receive business grants and ongoing mentoring, helping them navigate the early stages of their entrepreneurial journey.”
Olowojoba, described YSEC as “an unrivaled opportunity” for young entrepreneurs in Lagos, stressing that the programme equips them with the tools to innovate and build sustainable businesses.
“YSEC’s impact goes beyond reducing youth unemployment; it aims to nurture resilient businesses that contribute to the economic growth in Lagos and beyond. By bridging the skills gap and promoting sustainable development, NerdzFactory and its partners are empowering the next generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs to create a brighter, more prosperous future for their communities,” he added.
