Streaming platform, Netflix, has debunked rumours making the rounds that it has quietly left Nigeria.

The rumour has been a hot topic on social media, with many Nigerians blaming the alleged exit of the company on the poor performance of Nigeria’s economy.

The rumour was sparked after Nollywood director, Kunle Afolayan, revealed that Netflix has stopped funding Nigerian filmmakers.

Speaking at the 2024 Zuma Film Festival, Afolayan stated that his own project, Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre, was spared because he was already done shooting the two more seasons approved by the platform.

He, however, expressed sadness that some colleagues of his with works still in the pipeline were affected by Netflix’s decision to end funding for Nigerian contents.

Reacting, Netflix told reporters that it is not exiting Nigeria, adding that it will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight its members .
