New Kano emirate council bill passes first reading
The Kano State Emirate Council Bill 2019 yesterday passed first reading at the state House of Assembly.
Presenting the bill at plenary, Clark of the House, Abdullahi Alfa, read the new proposed bill for the creation of four emirate councils.
Speaker of the House, Abdul’azeez Garba Gafasa read the letter Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje transmitted to it introducing the new bill for the creation of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano emirate councils.
Ganduje’s resolve to reintroduce the bill followed Justice Usman Na’Abba’s nullification of the emirate councils earlier established by the state.
In his judgement, Justice Na’Abba declared the Kano Emirs Appointment and Deposition Amendment Law 2019, which was passed by the assembly for the creation of the emirates null and void.
