New monarch moves to restore sanity in Awka

The newly coronated traditional ruler of the Awka, the Anambra State capital, Obi Austine Ndigwe, Eze-Uzu 111, has promised to return the community to the part of progress and development.

The natural ruler, who was given a rousing reception by the crowd of supporters during his maiden official outing at the Awka
General Assembly (Izu Awka) yesterday, promised to also restore the legendary blacksmith and educational prowess, for which Awka was very well known in the past.

These, he said, would be the main thrust of his reign and geared towards meeting the yearnings of the people.

Obi Ndigwe, who was crowned less than 24 hours earlier, commended the people for their overwhelming support, prayers and outpouring messages of goodwill.

He specially thanked the kingmakers, the Otu Ozo, the elders, youth and women organisations and the Otochalu-Awka for finding him worthy of the onerous task of piloting the affairs of the community at this point in time.

He pledged an open door policy, where tyranny, greed and impunity would have no place, promising to always be guided by the laws, custom and tradition of the community and oath/code of conduct he swore to and signed.

Obi Ndigwe specifically thanked Ozo German Nwofor and Ozo Anieze Chinwuba on behalf of all other illustrious sons and daughters of the community, including the Awka Development Union, both at home and abroad for their painstaking and dogged efforts to return the community to the path of peace and progress.

He pledged not to fail them, but to work hard to return the community to the path of
development and recovery from the ruins and neglect of the past, explaining that he has already initiated moves for massive development of the area from the three tiers of government, international community/donor agencies, local and foreign investors, so as to provide jobs to their youths.

Ndigwe, however, cautioned those sons and daughters of the community usurping the collective goodwill of the people and trading on their welfare to desist forthwith in their own interest.
