Governor angry with security forces over recurrent attacks on hometown
Buni-Yadi, headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area in Yobe State, which is one of two hardest hit areas by the Boko Haram insurgency in the state, is getting some facelift with the construction of township roads and renovation of the Buni-Yadi General Hospital.

Last week, Boko Haram terrorists attacked nearby Buni Gari, Governor Mai Mala Buni’s hometown, injuring two and razing houses. The attack on the town was the sixth of its kind from December 2018 to date.

Yesterday, the governor flagged off construction of township roads in Buni-Yadi. The township roads, totalling four kilometres with an eight-kilometre drainage line, will be built through direct labour by the Ministry of Works and Transport at the cost of N673,455,140.

Voicing his anger over frequent attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on his hometown, Buni Gari, he charged security operatives to be proactive and do the needful. Buni Gari is about 5km from the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigeria Army. But the town has suffered more attacks from Boko Haram in the recent times.

The governor regretted that his visits to his hometown in recent times were all for negative events instead of positive issues. While addressing the people, he asked them to support the security operatives in doing their work and the security forces to be more offensive in their operations.

According to the governor, the project is a fulfilment of one of his campaign promises. “I made policy statements that I would consolidate on the execution of road projects to open up more communities and build rural feeder and link roads to ease movement of agricultural produce, livestock and other services to enhance socio-economic development”, he said.

Buni urged the community to cooperate with the construction team and claim ownership of the project from inception to completion while seeing to the maintenance of the drainage.

In addition, the governor directed the acting Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, to ensure all processes needed for the complete renovation of the Buni-Yadi General Hospital is activated. The Victims Support Fund (VSF) had started to renovate the Buni-Yadi General Hospital but work had stopped for several months now.
