NGO trains farmers in Nasarawa

A NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisation (NGO) Arimathia Foundation for Development has trained farmers in Nasarawa State on the use of minisetts techniques for planting seed yam to boost their production.

The NGO’s Director, Mr. Joshua Jonathan, told farmers at the training in Sabo Gida, Kokona Local Government Area that the technique would boost food production in the country.

Jonathan explained that the field day session was aimed at not only teaching farmers on how to plant seed yam using minisetts technique but also to end the era of using old method of yam production.

“As we are all aware that no society can live comfortably without agriculture, it is the major source of livelihood of every family and nation. The importance of agriculture cannot be over-emphasised to the development of any society,” he said.

The director appealed to farmers not to resist adopting the new farming methods of seed yam production through minisetts technique.

Jonathan said that the strategies would maximise their production potential, reduce poverty as well as improve their revenue generation.

“I also want to use this opportunity to call on all farmers in the country to adopt modern technology of farming.

According to him, this will go a long way to increase food production as well as fighting food insecurity for the benefit of all in the country.

The director also urged farmers to adhere strictly to the principle of application for positive results.
