Two members of a suspected bandits’ gang terrorising residents of Abuja have been killed during a police operation led by the FCT Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed the development while briefing journalists at the command headquarters on Wednesday. He stated that the operation was personally led by him and resulted in the neutralisation of two suspects linked to recent criminal activities in parts of the capital.
According to the police chief, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to rid the Federal Capital Territory of armed criminal elements responsible for attacks and insecurity in surrounding communities.
He added that officers acted on credible intelligence which led to the confrontation, during which the two suspects were shot dead.
The FCT Police Command assured residents that security operations across Abuja and its environs have been intensified, with further measures in place to track and dismantle remaining members of the gang.
Further details are expected as investigations continue.
