NIA offers to rebuild Borno after flooding
For faster recovery, the Nigerian lnstitute of Architects (NIA) has assured the Borno State government of its willingness to offer help to it and, where possible, provide some pro bono architectural services to assist in the ongoing reconstruction of projects.
The commitment was made when the body’s president, Mrs Mobolaji Adeniyi, led a delegation on a solidarity visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in the wake of the recent devastating floods that caused significant loss of life and property in the state.
The NIA boss assured the government that the institute was not just providing one-time support, but was committed to a long-term partnership, by providing sustainable and climate-resilient solutions for Borno’s reconstruction.
According to her, the commitment is a testament to the institute’s dedication to the people of Borno and the belief in the power of architecture to shape a better future.
“This demonstrates our commitment to aiding the state’s recovery. We are here for the long haul, ready to lend our expertise and support to ensure a brighter future for Borno,” she said.
Welcoming the gesture, Zulum highlighted the need for more registered architects in Borno and requested the establishment of more schools of architecture in the state to boost local expertise.
