The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Communications Satellite Ltd (NigComSat), Jane Egerton-Idehen, has assured that the Federal Government’s commitment toward addressing key policy gaps hindering Nigeria’s digital transformation, particularly in areas of electronic documentation and data protection.

Egerton-Idehen pledged at the two-day Tech Revolution Africa conference held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

She noted that the absence of legally recognised electronic signatures limits the efficiency of government transactions, creating a major bottleneck in public administration.

According to her, the passage of the Digital Economy Bill will help set clear policies that protect data privacy while creating an environment where digital talents can thrive.

“One of the challenges we have in government is that we can’t sign things electronically because it is not considered official. That is a limitation, we are also working to set policies for data protection so that people can have a say on how their data is being used. If we are not careful, we might create a strategy that limits the private sector, and we don’t want to do that.”

Also speaking, the Chief Information Officer of MTN, Shoyinka Shodunke, said digital transformation is crucial in repositioning Africa for economic growth.

He noted that harnessing data effectively could unlock opportunities across key sectors such as finance, healthcare, and education.

Shodunke stressed that digital transformation is not just about technology but rethinking how societies work, interact, and innovate in an increasingly connected world. The organisers of the event, David Ogebe, House of Heroz and Glory Olamigoke, TekNexus Africa, encouraged young tech talents to develop globally relevant solutions.
