Niger Delta groups make case for youths

Niger Delta groups, at the weekend, lamented challenges faced by Nigerian youths, particularly in the Niger Delta region and urged Federal and state governments to provide them jobs.

The groups were in Asaba, Delta State for a summit.

They declared, among others, that engaging youths would prepare them for a better future instead of engaging in kidnapping and other social vices inimical to the development of the country.

The groups, Nigeria Young Professional Brand, Blue Can Energy, and Young Delta Economic Summit, made the call during the second Niger Delta MSME Summit, with the theme: “Stimulating MSME’S Growth Towards Post COVID-19 Recovery.”

One of the conveners, Mr. Moses Siloko Siasia, noted that the Niger Delta youths are not lazy, but that some young Nigerians take to kidnapping because they have nothing doing.

He said: “Redirecting the energy put into kidnapping, that is, the expertise involved in kidnapping and taking kidnap victims to where they would be kept safe is an expertise and we need to redirect that energy.”

Mr. Suleiman Yusuf, founder, Blue Cam Energy, who was a guest speaker at the conference, said: “The singular reason why all of these are there is because there are no jobs.

You need to create job opportunities for people, otherwise, you will not enjoy your future success.”

Another speaker, Ekene Isichei, convener of Young Delta Economic Summit, underscored the need for business structuring to create value.
