Niger Govt. donates relief materials worth N36m to windstorm, flood victims

Niger Government has donated relief materials worth over N36 millions to victims of windstorm and flood in 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Wednesday that the disaster occurred between June and July 2015.

Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger said that the gesture was part of state government intervention to reduce the plight of the affected persons.

Bello, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, directed the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) to ensure that the items get to the right persons.

Similarly, Alhaji Ibrahim Inga, NSEMA Director General, said that the agency would ensure that the affected Local Government Areas get it allocated distribution.

He said that the agency has a monitoring team in each Local Government to ensure that the items are equally distributed to the right victims.

“We have Desk Officers in each Local Government that would ensure that the materials get to the right people.

“We have list of the affected Local Government and names of the affected persons that would be used to distribute accordingly,” he said.

He disclosed that the Federal Government also donated mattresses through a committee headed by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, saying that more are coming.

NAN reports that the benefited Local Government Areas included Mokwa, Lapai, Borgu, Lavun, Shiroro, Muyan and Bosso.

Others are Paikoro, Agaie, Wushishi, Agwara, Gbako, Edati, Katcha, Bida, and Chachanga.

Items donated were rice, beans, gari, groundnut oil, palm oil, maize, roofing zinc, nails, cement and salt.
