‘Nigeria committed to deepening political, economic ties with all nations’
Immediate past minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu has said Nigeria is willing and committed to deepening political and economic relationships with all nations for the mutual benefit of all.
Onu disclosed this when he received the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Japan, Shunsuke Takei who paid him a courtesy visit in his residence yesterday in Abuja. He said that Nigeria is seeking to expand and sustain diplomatic and economic relationships with friendly countries, while commending Japan’s contribution to the world’s economy through innovation, excellence and hard work.
He said that other countries had a lot to learn from Japan stressing that since the return of democracy in the country about 20 years ago, it has developed tremendously and expressed utmost confidence in the stability of the political situation, democratic institutions and governance in the country.
He maintained that Nigeria will cooperate with Japan to help Nigeria achieve its aim of moving from a resource and commodity based economy to a knowledge-based economy of Science, Technology and Innovation. Takei commended the steady progress and growth of the business and economic relationship between both countries. According to him, Nigeria is expected to lead discussion in the forth coming Tokyo 7th International Conference on African Development scheduled to hold from 28-30 August, 2019 in Japan, adding that the conference is expected to discuss economic and development agenda.
Takei was accompanied by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Nigeria, Yutaka Kikuta and other top dignitaries from Japan and other embassy officials.
