Nigeria customs arrests passenger at Lagos airport with fake $10,000 US enroute Brazil

The Nigeria Customs Service, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, apprehended a passenger, Ifeanacho Marcellinus Ugbor, with fake $10,000 US en route to Brazil.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Charles Orbih, revealed this to newsmen at the Command on Wednesday, 15th November 2023.

According to Orbih, The CAC disclosed that the 41-year-old Nigerian was scheduled to travel to Brazil on Friday, 10th November 2023.

“During the course of the examination of his consignment, which is supposed to be the duties and responsibilities of our officers, according to section (66) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, the officers discovered that the passenger was carrying some currency to the tune of $10,000 that are counterfeited and he was apprehended.”

The suspect, the fake currency and other related materials have been handed over to officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for appropriate measures to be carried out.

Meanwhile, Orbih noted that the command has enjoyed a robust and complementary relationship with sister agencies within the Airport.
